{"id":113054,"date":"2025-10-07T09:16:16","date_gmt":"2025-10-07T13:16:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sharpfootballanalysis.com\/?p=113054"},"modified":"2025-10-14T06:26:42","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T10:26:42","slug":"nfl-week-5-recap-jets-offense-first-half","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sharpfootballanalysis.com\/analysis\/nfl-week-5-recap-jets-offense-first-half\/","title":{"rendered":"NFL Week 5 Recap: Jets Can&#8217;t Score in the First Half"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I didn't expect much, to be honest with you, out of the pairing of <strong>Justin<\/strong> <strong>Fields<\/strong> and <strong>Aaron<\/strong> <strong>Glenn<\/strong> in New York with the Jets, but we are seeing some flashes of opportunity here, even though it's not being executed very well at all.<\/p>\n<p>I think that there could be some improvements made.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-shortcode\"><iframe title=\"Why Justin Fields Keeps Failing in First Halves | NFL Week 5 Recap\" width=\"1100\" height=\"619\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/k6uI7XbpP1Y?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the first half of the game against the Cowboys, look at the success rates.<\/p>\n<p>Passing (out of 26 QBs):<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">#25 accuracy<br \/>\n#20 EPA per attempt (-0.21)<br \/>\n#18 success rate (41%)<br \/>\n#21 completion rate (57%)<br \/>\n#22 yards per attempt (5.3)<\/p>\n<p>Rushing:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">#2 in yards per carry (7.1)<br \/>\n#5 in success rate (50%)<br \/>\n#18 in EPA (-0.18) only because of a fumble<br \/>\n#2 yards before contact per rush on RB runs (2.3)<\/p>\n<p>Yet, the Jets were 15th in pass rate rather than leaning more into the run to force the Cowboys to stop them.<\/p>\n<p>This performance was a microcosm of the season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Justin<\/strong> <strong>Fields<\/strong> in the first half of games, out of 40 QBs:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">#37 in accuracy<br \/>\n#26 in EPA per attempt (-0.02)<br \/>\n#23 in yards per attempt (6.5)<br \/>\n#32 in completion rate (61%)<br \/>\n#39 in sack rate (12%)<br \/>\n1 total TD<\/p>\n<p>Fields in the second half of games:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">#2 in accuracy<br \/>\n#13 in EPA per attempt (+0.19)<br \/>\n#19 in yards per attempt (7.5)<br \/>\n#11 in completion rate (71%)<br \/>\n#17 in sack rate (6%)<br \/>\n6 total TDs<\/p>\n<p>I don't think Fields is a winning quarterback, and I haven't thought that for a while now, but they have opportunities in some of these games to make winning plays and to make them earlier in the game to give themselves a better chance later in the game.<\/p>\n<p>From coaching, game planning, scheming, designing, and encouraging, they're just not doing it at all levels.<\/p>\n<p>They need to get it turned around quickly, or Fields and his head coach could be in hot water.<\/p>\n\t<div class='sfa-image-adds' style=\"margin-bottom: 20px;\">\n\t\t<a href='https:\/\/www.sharpfootballanalysis.com\/newsletter\/'>\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sharpfootballanalysis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Sharp-Football-Analysis-Newsletter-Ad.jpg\" class=\"attachment-size-full size-size-full\" alt=\"Sharp Football Analysis Newsletter\" \/>\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\t\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I didn&#8217;t expect much, to be honest with you, out  [&#8230;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":109500,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_seopress_robots_primary_cat":"none","_seopress_titles_title":"NFL Week 5 Recap: Jets Can't Score in the First Half","_seopress_titles_desc":"Warren Sharp outlines why the Jets continue to struggle offensively at the beginning of games.
