The winners will meet in San Francisco in two weeks, but the one thing we already know is that the NFC winner this Sunday will be the favorite in Super Bowl LX over the AFC.

Kicking things off on Sunday afternoon is the AFC Championship Game in Denver between the top-seeded Broncos (15-3) and the No. 2 New England Patriots (16-3). That's a rematch of the 2015 AFC Championship Game, the last matchup between legendary quarterbacks Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, which Manning won. But Sunday is quite different as we have Drake Maye in his first AFC title game as a second-year player and Jarrett Stidham in his fifth-career start after ankle surgery ended Bo Nix's season following the 33-30 overtime win over Buffalo.

It's a stunning turn of events for Denver, which went with such a quarterback-centric approach on offense last week, too, with Nix having the ball on over 85% of the offensive snaps. Head coach Sean Payton will have to adjust to a quarterback, Stidham, who has not thrown a pass in a regular-season game since 2023, making it unprecedented for him to start a championship game for a team. At the very least, Stidham does rank 25th in passing yards for a quarterback through four career starts, as he has thrown for over 200 yards and a touchdown in each of his four starts, including two starts in a Payton-coached offense in Denver in 2023.

However, Stidham has started before for Josh McDaniels, the current offensive coordinator of the Patriots, so he should know what makes him tick and what he struggles with. But the way for Denver to pull off the upset will be on defense with the No. 1 defense in sacks this year. They must cause absolute havoc against Drake Maye's offensive line. Maye has already taken 10 sacks and fumbled six times (three lost) in the two playoff games. The Patriots are winning because their defense has been dominant, so the Broncos have to make sure they're the best defense on the field Sunday. But it is worth noting that the Patriots have twice this year won consecutive games by taking 5.0 sacks, throwing a pick, and committing multiple interceptions. That has only happened two other times in NFL history, so they seem uniquely qualified to survive a sloppy game thanks to their defense.

While it may be the best defense wins the day in Denver, Sunday evening's NFC Championship Game between the No. 5 Los Angeles Rams (14-5) and No. 1 Seattle Seahawks (15-3) may also come down to the defense that plays the best. The Seahawks have the No. 1 scoring defense, but they did surrender 37 points and over 550 yards of offense to the Rams in Week 16. It was such a weird game, too, since the Seahawks previously held Matthew Stafford to a season-low 130 passing yards in Los Angeles. But in a game on the road without Davante Adams, Stafford passed for 457 yards and three touchdowns.

But the Rams blew a 30-14 lead in the final 10:00, which is why Seattle won the No. 1 seed and is hosting this game instead of the Rams, who have allowed five game-winning drives this season. The Rams also allowed late touchdowns to the Panthers and Bears before coming back to win on a late drive led by Stafford, who now has 55 game-winning drives, ranked fifth in NFL history. But the first-team All-Pro quarterback has not been as sharp since he injured his finger on his throwing hand in the Wild Card round in Carolina. He completed fewer than 50% of his passes in Chicago, but it was one of the coldest games of his career, and it was snowy. Conditions should be fine in Seattle this Sunday night.

All eyes will be on Sam Darnold, too. He was in danger of falling to 0-4 to the Rams since 2024 before that wild comeback that was also aided by big special teams plays, and the flukiest 2-point conversion you'll ever see on a batted backwards pass that was recovered for a game-tying score by the Seahawks. It was also the first game in NFL history in which a team won on a walk-off 2-point conversion after giving up a touchdown in overtime.

With that said, it should be an interesting Championship Sunday from start to finish.
